El mundo de Narnia está en Belfast

CS Lewis se crió en Belfast y dijo . "La naturaleza tiene algo que nos compele a inventar gigantes: y sólo sirven gigantes".

Entra en el Condado de Down, el paraíso perdido de Narnia 

Algo pasa en el Condado de Down, algo realmente mágico. Las montañas y mitos de este condado fueron la fuente de inspiración de CS Lewis para crear su tierra de Narnia, el león, la bruja y el armario, un mundo de fantasía hasta que conoces los lugares de la vida real en los que está inspirado. Porque el mundo de Narnia existePasear por los bosques, las montañas, los caprichos geológicos o las grutas de este territorio, y conocer los ancestrales mitos celtas Solo hay que dejarse llevar, para viajar en el tiempo y disfrutar de los paisajes más hermosos de Irlanda del Norte. 

En el Condado de Down, está  el parque forestal de Tollymore. Un paseo por el río Shimna es un paseo entre curiosidades naturales y artificiales, afloramientos rocosos, puentes, grutas y cuevas, árboles exóticos como araucarias y eucaliptos o incluso entre gigantescas secuoyas y altos pinos. El castillo para el libro ( fue nombrado como Cair Paravel, que al igual que el real ,Dunlace, se situaba al borde de un acantilado El castillo tiene una cueva oculta. Esta cueva se encuentra debajo del castillo, a la que solo se puede acceder cuando la marea está baja y que, al recorrerla, uno puede escuchar perfectamente el sonido del mar rebotando por sus paredes.

IRELAND POLITICS

We are going to focus on POLITICS and COMPARE Ireland and Spain. You can revise some ideas in your Module 2, Units 3 and 4.

Activity 1 – Read the text

Ireland is a parliamentary, representative, democratic republic and a member state of the European Union. The head of state is the popularly elected President od Ireland.

Executive power is exercised by the government, which consists of no more than 15 cabinet ministers. 

Legislative power is in the hands of the Oireachtas, the bicameral national parliament, which consists of a lower house, an upper house and the President of Ireland.

The judicial power is independent of the executive and the legislative powers.

Main political parties

The political landscape has been dominated for decades by Fiana Fáil and Fine Gael, historically opposed , which both occupy the traditional centre ground.

From the 1930s until 2011 they were the largest and second-largest parties respectively. Both parties trace their roots back to the opposing sides of the Irish Civil War.

The Labour Party, historically the state's third political party, has only ever been in power as part of a coalition with either of the two main parties.

In 2011, Fine Gael became the largest party, Labour the second, and Fianna Fáil dropping to third and Sinn Féin saw a substantial increase in support.

However, in 2016 Fianna Fáil managed to regain support and become the second-largest party, while Labour collapsed to fourth place .Sinn Féin became the third-largest party, while Fine Gael remained the largest party.

Ideologies

Much of the population of Northern Ireland identifies with one of two different ideologies:

Unionism, which wants the region to remain part of the United Kingdom. Unionists are predominantly Ulster( a región) Protestant

Irish nationalism, which wants a United Ireland. Irish nationalists are almost wholly Roman Catholic.

Ireland tends towards independence in foreign policy, so it is not a member of NATO and has an old policy of military neutrality.

NORTHERN IRELAND

Northern Ireland has been an important factor in Irish politics since the island of Ireland was divided between Northern Ireland and what is now the Republic in 1920. The creation of Northern Ireland led to conflict between northern nationalists (mostly Roman Catholic) who seek unification with the Republic and Unionists (mostly Protestant) who wished for Northern Ireland to remain within the United Kingdom.

In the 1960s the conflict between these two groups exploded into violence in the late sixties with the beginning of THE TROUBLES, involving groups such as the Provisional IRA, the Police or the British Army.

"The Troubles" refers to the three-decade conflict between nationalists (mainly self-identified as Irish or Roman Catholic) and unionists (mainly self-identified as British or Protestant). The word "troubles" has been used as a synonym for violent conflict for centuries. The term was used to describe the Irish revolutionary period in the early twentieth century. 

The Troubles caused thousands of deaths in Northern Ireland and there were also bombings and acts of violence in England and the Republic.

To find a solution to the Troubles the Irish Government became a partner in the Good Friday Agreeement  in 1998. Since 1998, Northern Ireland has transfered government within the United Kingdom.

North/South Ministerial Council

Under the Belfast Agreement (also known as the Good Friday Agreement) and Article 3 of the constitution, a North-South Ministerial Council and six North-South Implementation Bodies co-ordinate activities and exercise a limited governmental role within certain policy areas across the whole island of Ireland. Meetings of the Council take the form of meetings between ministers from both the Republic's Government and the Northern Ireland Executive.

El universo de Narnia es una ficción basada en hechos bíblicos y mitos irlandeses. Su legado se reparte en una serie de libros que comenzaron a publicarse en 1950.
